Aug 31, 2012 11:12 PM

Trey Lyles took an official visit to Butler on Friday.

The 6-foot-9 small forward, ranked as a top-10 player in the class of 2013, is likely to visit Michigan State, Illinois, Louisville and Ohio State in the near future.

“It’s a new thing for him to be highly recruited like this, so I want him to learn as much as he can and listen to what is said and what is not said,” Lyles’ father, Tom Lyles said. “So that’s what these visits will be about.”

Duke, North Carolina, North Carolina State , Florida, Texas and UCLA could receive visits as well.

Memphis, Louisville Among Finalists For JUCO Guard Chris Jones

Aug 26, 2012 2:12 PM

Chris Jones, a 5-foot-10, 170-pound guard who played two years at Northwest Florida State, has narrowed his list of possible college destinations to Memphis, Louisville, Kansas, Baylor, Florida State and Oklahoma State.

"Every coach on my list is just gonna let me play my game, they tell me they're gonna put the ball in my hands, and I can win at each program," Jones said. "Each coach is willing to get me to the next level."

Jones will visit each school besides Memphis, as the Memphis native has been on campus multiple times, and then sign in November's early signing period.

"Chris has managed the recruiting process well," Northwest Florida State coach Steve Forbes said. "I'm proud of him. He's made himself accessible and he got to know the coaches as best he could. When he came in my office (Friday), he had a really good idea of where he was at."

Troy Williams Set To Play At Oak Hill Academy, Targets Mid-November Commitment

Aug 19, 2012 8:44 PM

Troy Williams will play his senior season at Oak Hill Academy, a small preparatory school located in the Blue Ridge Mountains of southwestern Virginia.

"Everybody talks about all the players who went there," Williams said. "I'm mainly focusing on the maturity process. You play basketball and go to school. There's no outside distractions there. Everything you need is right there.

"Really, that's all I've been doing all summer, anyway. It won't be that much different. There will be video games there. I don't go out and party and all that, anyway. It won't be that much of a change."

Williams, a top-50 recruit in the 2013 class, expects to commit on or shortly after Nov. 14, when the early signing period begins.

The 6-foot-6 forward has offers from Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgetown, Louisville, Florida and South Carolina.

Aug 12, 2012 3:55 PM

Doc Rivers and Gregg Popovich are considered the top candidates to replace Mike Krzyzewski as head coach of the United States, according to sources.

Jerry Colangelo will remain in his current position for one more Olympics and will give Krzyzewski some time to reconsider remaining.

Sources say Rick Pitino has expressed strong interest in the position, but an NBA coach is widely expected to eventually land the job.

Mike D'Antoni and Nate McMillan, current Team USA assistants without a permanent job with a team, are considered longshots.

7-Foot-1 Joel Embid Receiving Interest From UCLA, Florida

Aug 4, 2012 12:07 PM

Joel Embid has only been playing basketball for 18 months, but his 7-foot-1 frame makes his potential limitless.

Embid began playing basketball at one of Luc Richard Mbah a Moute's basketball camps in Cameroon. Mbah a Moute discovered him and encouraged him to come to the United States and attend Montverde Academy in Florida.

"He's got untapped potential, when he figures it all out," one Division I assistant coach said. "In two years, he's going to be really good for somebody."

Florida and UCLA were both recruiting Embid early, while Louisville, Virginia, Texas and Georgia Tech have also expressed interest.

"He learned his foot skills by watching videotapes of Hakeem Olajuwon," said Jeff Simmons, Embid's AAU coach with Florida Elite. "He taught himself. His footwork is outstanding."

Embid will be a member of the 2013 incoming freshman class.
